Big verdict in NH A jury in federal court in New Hampshire has awarded $21 million to a woman who suffered blindness and scarring as a result of extreme burns to her skin, mucus membranes and eyes after taking the prescription anti-inflammatory drug Sulindac for shoulder pain. It was determined that the manufacturer of the drug, Mutual Pharmaceutical Co. was liable because is should have known the drug was unreasonably dangerous to some users.
Even when a drug has been given the okay by the Federal Drug Administration, manufacturers are still responsible for making sure that the drug is safe for most consumers. Failure to find out the dangers of a product is a basis for legal liability, as is a failure to warn of known potential dangers.
