Carbon Monoxide December, January and February are the prime months for incidents involving injury or death from carbon monoxide, so now is a particularly important time for being alert to the dangers of this lethal gas.
CO is an odorless, tasteless invisible gas which is produced from inadequate combustion of a fuel. This can result from poor ventilation in a heating system, such as blocked chimneys or flues. Many incidents occur from the use of portable propane heaters or lanterns in enclosed spaces. In a report issued in October the Gas Safety Trust revealed a dramatic rise in the number of deaths resulting from carbon monoxide poisoning in the UK since 2010.
Every home should be equipped with CO detectors kept in working order to avoid a tragedy caused by this silent killer.
